Doctors may also recommend calcium and vitamin D supplements for people as they age to help maintain bone density and prevent fractures and breaks.

Calcium may play a role, but it should not be the only action taken to prevent cancer in its various forms. Overuse of calcium may actually contribute to the development of certain illnesses, including prostate cancer.
